EV777, it seems that she was only about 13 years old when she died...so sad

She was really focussed yet innocent to make her statement. RIP! You were an inspiration to a lot of young girls.

A Golden Girls episode paid tribute to this remarkable girl's story! Rose Nyland (Betty White) wrote a letter of peace to President Gorbachev and was invited to Russia, but when a Russian ambassador saw that it was an adult and not a young child that wrote the letter, the invitation for Rose to visit Russia was called off

Gary
very honest little girl and straightforward.

Stella
My daughter was scheduled to be on the same plane as Samantha but rescheduled for a direct flight.

Bren #30693623, maybe in case of nuclear war? I know the 50s school kids had to learn a bunch of prep, although by my day (60s) it had toned down alot, even we had some duck and cover to learn. lol

Bren #30693623, makes no sense. it cause more subconscious stress to the babyboom generation and add to that if you lived in California you had to prepare for th e Big One quake. Duck and cover

Julie
I never heard of this. It’s very sad she died so young.

I am from the former Soviet Union and remember very well when she visited. The girl was pure and naive. She had good intentions, but was used by the Soviet government as a propaganda prop. Her parents should have known better.

I never knew this or heard anything about this. I remember kindergarten we would practice going to our pick up point. We would carry a gallon of water, change of clothes and a warm blanket. We walked to an open field.
