Jaw dropping. No formal military experience, some second hand knowledge and a musician put this together.

I don't know why his name apears 1st, as the impetus for the invention as well as most of the development was HER idea. Also, it was designed as a method to PREVENT the Germans from "tracking and jamming" OUR torpedoes. Lastly, she never made a dime for this invention used all over the world for 100's of sytems.

That was mostly Hedy Lamarr, though, so maybe her name could appear first on the answer...

I LOVED her as a teenager! My father would yell at me, "You can be beautiful, 'Nutshell', or you can be smart but people can only steal ONE of those things from you" So... I'd finish getting ready for my date, give him a kiss on the cheek and tell him, "Remember Hedy Lamar, dad? I'll be home before curfew!' "garunph. fine." (I apologize for accidentally posting my last comment too soon!)

There is a documentary entitled Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story, which goes into great depth about this invention and her contribution to it. Also, at first, the invention was ignored by the military because she was "just an actress" and how could she invention something that complicated. SMH
