Diver Dan, antibiotic resistance is all because people choose to misuse antibiotics. It is not a panacea for everything, yet people still take it when it is not needed or take it as it is prescribed, they do not follow directions for how to take it, like not taking for the entire prescribed time. Then some people save them for times they think they need it, a VERY uneducated thing to do! Unwittingly causing more problems.

Broad spectrum antibiotis have been overused in animal feed to reduce economic loss due to spread of disease in closely packed animals. While this practice has been greatly reduced in recent years the effects of antibiotic resistance persists. Please buy only antibiotic free, grass fed free range meat. It costs a little more but is much better for you and the animals.
