When I was holidaying in Alice Spring, an Aboriginal cultural tour took me to the desert and demonstrated how to find bush tucker in the red centre. I have found and tried bush apples, honey ants and the famous witchety grubs, which the tour guide ate it raw and he cooked some more on hot ashes on the ground for the tourists.

We are starting to learn that the indigenous people of Australia had what was probably the most perfect land management ever devised. They practised sustainable agriculture for 65,000 years without damage to the country. Australia was basically just one big healthy farm. Witchetty grubs were just one part of their varied diets.

I have tried eating cooked insects but never willingly devoured live ones save for those small flies trapped on the surface of my glass of beer.
