Benjamin Briggs captained what mystery ship?
Correct answer: Mary Celeste
nimblemoon
Never heard this whole story before! What a terrific movie it would make!
Gryphon
I agree nimblemoon it's surprising no one had never made a movie about this. With all the rehash of scripts in today's Hollywood here is an original story just waiting to be written and no one had done it yet, at least to production stage.

Gryphon, "The mystery of the Marie Celeste" was released in 1935. I just Googled it as I was also interested.

There was a very similar eerie event that happened around 10 years ago in Australia. Three retired men men were sailing around the coast of Australia...
Their boat was found adrift near the Great Barrier Reef with no one on board, all of its life vests still stowed, food set out for breakfast & no signs of a struggle.
Radakyl
watch the modern movie Ghostship they talk about it.That made me Google it!

Player #4466167, I’d like Tom Cruise to play Briggs......and disappear for real.

That is so sad.

SAC69, The ship's food was not rotten and there were no sign of any attack by pirates or any creature..the valuables were in safe ..read about it

FROM WIKIPEDIA:
The story of her 1872 abandonment has been recounted and dramatized many times in documentaries, novels, plays, and films, and the name of the ship has become a byword for unexplained desertion.

I read a fascinating book that indicated it might be an Irishman and three members of the Agnes Dei, the ship that found the Marie Celeste. The Irishman needed money to escape murder charges and first mate on the Agnes Dei needed money to purchase a share of a ship to make more money,

AnonymousDog10027, if they made the movie now, they'd probably throw in a superhero.
Floxglove1985
Maybe they already have, with film starting in the early 19th century, it’s entirely they made it and it was simply forgot about

I never heard of this until 12 years ago when my grandaughter was born. My son-in-law was fascinated by the story of this ship, and named her Mary Celeste.
Gdub
I doubt making a movie on this would be great idea. Audiences would walk out after that like, well where did they go? Now if you are saying, give it an ending, well then this has been made into a movie in many variations.

nimblemoon, I too have never heard of this. it would indeed be an interesting movie to see. love the things we learn on here

I guess for many the thought of a UFO and aliens would enter the picture. But that doesn't explain the missing lifeboat, unless the aliens were like, "leave the ship...we want it." Then changed their mind when it wouldn't fit into their spacecraft. Just a thought.
