Wish they'd told us why he chose that particular pen name.

"When Eric Arthur Blair was getting ready to publish his first book, Down and Out in Paris and London, he decided to use a pen name so his family wouldn’t be embarrassed by his time in poverty. According to the Orwell Foundation, the name George Orwell is a mix of the name of the reigning monarch, King George VI, and that of a local river."

Democratic Socialism is a much better alternative than capitalism or communism. Our biosphere is in dire peril as a direct result of human activity and all eyes should be on immediately taking drastic steps help it recover. Be aware and be proactive.

I read 1984, let me tell you, not an easy book to get around but is extremely interesting, there should be a modern movie on it! Highly recommend reading the book if you have time and patience.

1984, one of my all-time favourite novels, I have read it many times. Down & Out in Paris & London is a sad description of living in poverty.
