What is the device used by the police to burst car tyres?

Here in the US they call them stop sticks or spike strips so I had to hazard a guess and was fortunate it was the right one.

Safer than car chases that endanger others.

I have worked with Stop stick ,Tire Spikes ,Stop Hazard for many years and NEVER heard them been called Stinger.Guess you learn something new every day.

Rand Al'Thor, the "Stinger" spike strip is but one of many tire deflation tools. Poorly worded question, like referring to all bleach as "Clorox."

kardnut, Why? It says car tyre so it was obvious what it was, regardless of whether they used English or American English spelling.
