most memories a human can recall are from smell. when you feel a familiar smell you first experience the feeling that you had (happy, scared, disgusted...) and after that you remember the facts/ situation when you first smelled that scent/odor

abominablecamel, i had a stroke a few years ago.when i woke up in the hospital everything tasted better even crackers and hospital food.now everything tastes good now ,which is ironic because i have diabetes.i count it as a blessing.god has a sense of humor.everything tastes good but i cant eat it all.

lily 21, not true. I have colds that take out sense of smell and therefore sense of taste, and I over eat anyway. I wish it was that simple!!!

I’ve had a ridiculously heightened sense of smell since I was pregnant (21 years ago), and it’s never diminished. I wish it would to ‘normal’ levels as some smells make me gag 😐

My college roommate had traumatic anosmia from a car accident that severed his olfactory nerve. When he went on dates it became my job to spray his cologne on him, because left to his own devices he’d use it by the quart 😂😂😂

I am almost the same , I lost all my sense of smell following brain surgery and transphenoidal surgery ( through the nasal cavity), but still have about 10% taste.
Thirty years ago , I can hardly remember the smell of most things.

Can't smell well.I think from falling on concrete jumping as a child.But when I do smell cooking.or certain detergents.I can't breath.Have to use All.free and clear detergents and shampoos.and not just stand over the stove cooking.Think tubes in my throat to knock me out to set my broken arm.had a major effect.messed up my talking too.

My granddaughter was diagnosed with this, after having shingles, side affect of chicken pox Booster at age 5 . She is now 18 and still cannot smell.
