Who painted "The 3rd of May"?
Correct answer: Francisco de Goya
Sunshine Dreema
This is so sad in comparison with the peasants' short-lived victory the day before. In Madrid we get "Dos de Mayo" off as a holiday to remember this event. Each year people lay flowers in a square in the Malasaña area of the city where the people had their victory and on the hill near Templo de Debod where they were killed the following day.

XamAiuqoc, OR (to follow sunset's lead) if you wish to be even more technical, the man's full name was really.... Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes, but I suppose people could have called him whatever they wanted since he was deaf.
