there is a film about Kipling's son called "My boy Jack" , Daniel Radcliffe plays Jack, it is a very moving film. Jack was a brave lad.

It's so sad that so many lives are lost to the futility of war, but the final resting places of many of them are still beautifully kept, a fine mark of respect for their bravery.

Mumski, the film is very moving. The film makers tried to show Kipling as a symbol of colonialism and romanticism, and the pain and futility those notions bring to the reality of war. It's satire as much as biography

Just yesterday I was thinking about an episode of MASH. In the episode, Pierce is talking to a General. The General is very stubborn and has no problem sending men to die in order to take land, knowing lots will definitely die. Pierce is upset at him and then the General’s son gets injured and Pierce has to try and save him but he dies and Pierce has to tell the General that his son is dead and he uses it to try and help the General see that men’s lives are important. I wonder if this episode has anything to do with this story, like was it inspired by this. Just a thought.
