Laudy Miss Claudy, I think she also starred in a film with Bette Davis playing a house maid and yes, she was a good actress and to be treated the way she was is just unthinkable in this day and age

Ms McDaniel, the daughter of slaves, received the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mammy in Gone with the Wind. She accepted her award along with the other winners at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles but because she was Black and the Hotel did not allow Black people in the establishment she was seated away from the other guests, including her castmates Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh, at a small table in the back of the hotel.
