We also were required to make the floor slanted and dig two deep holes on both side of the foxhole. The logic being if a grand was thrown in the hole it would roll down the slant into the deep holes and would protect us by bunting the explosion.

HotGenius71509, there is a show called Horrible Histories on kid's ABC & Discoveries that is good in giving you the heads up on names, events, dates etc. I know history is not everyone's favourite subject, but this show makes learning history almost fun.

My husband served during the Vietnam War. Very unpopular war. never had any respect for his service to his country until a few years ago when the USA was fighting in several countries around the world. Now he is always thanked for his service as he walks downstream street with his USS Coral Sea hat on his head. Thanks to all of you who appreciate our service men. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, firemen and policemen. Did I forget anyone? My apologies if I did.

I want to thank all of our troops who have served past, present, and even future. Because if they didn't serve (or will serve) we wouldn't have anyone to try to protect our country!! I also have lots of close family and others who have served or are serving in many different branches of the military. And I am very thankful for them each and every day. Please support and pray for all of them for what they do every day.

CozyElderberry67744, my grandfather was a glider pilot in WWII & he also served during Korea & Vietnam. Not many glider pilots made it back. Despite what he went through, & the losses endured, he had extreme respect for the smaller stature soldiers who either volunteered or were ordered into tunnels (not foxholes, tunnels) the enemy used to sneak up on what they considered their enemy. Many of those brave souls did not make it back either & saved countless lives of Americans in the process. Thank you to everyone who has helped keep all Americans free, via their service, & sacrifice.
