Medical help was very scarce. prisoners on both sides starved and diseases were another cause of casualties.

PATSNATION5INGS, You say people will forget the Civil War if the Confederate monuments are removed.
Should we put Osama bin Laden statues at ground zero & in front of the Pentagon? A Timothy McVeigh statue in Oklahoma City? Do you think Germany has forgotten Hitler because they don't have any statues of him?
It sounds completely mental doesn't it????? That's because statues and monuments don't teach history. They are erected to honor a person or event, which is why even Robert E Lee was vehemently against having them erected for the Confederacy after the Civil War.
Our country needs to be united, not divided and those monuments are divisive and offensive to many Americans. Put them in a museum where those who wish to see them can but it's time for our country to take a Confederate general's advice to heal, unite, and move past the Civil War...

I had a lot of relatives that died at Andersonville. 3 were brothers. One was a drummer boy. He was 11 years old. His drum still sits in North Haverhill NH in the Ladd St. School House. I have e a pic with my mother holding it...

War is a way to control the world's populations, you don't have to agree. Just look at it with an open mind.

In my opinion, most conflicts (personal, national, etc ) are caused by people's ego. If you have a belief, you feel threatened when someone challenges you. This escalates and sides are taken. Then things get out of control. Isn't pride one of the 7 deadly sins?!!

Timbo USN (Ret.)
