I agree that Heathcliff died at the end and was reunited with Cathy. Sometimes if an ending is not crystal clear human nature can create whatever ending they are most comfortable with. However, if Heathcliff and Cathy were ghosts they would both have to be dead.

sbl777, yes, the doctor does say he saw "his body lying in the snow". if that doesn't mean he's dead then what. Froze to death would be a better answer.

read the book. He dies in the beginning. it is a huge flashback that comes full circle.
