PointyDormouse60089, Thank you for your comment. I agree with you. Although my uncle wasn't able to fly, he did remain in the airforce in another capacity. I don't remember what his job was, but he proudly served his country.

I love a man in uniform especially if they are apart of our U.S.A military. I am the proud mom of two active duty navy sailors (hospital corps man and a petty officer 1st class)to everyone around the world I thank every military soldier no matter your country

doxierescued, Pilots have to be able to distinguish between various landmarks from high up...colors are important. Also, I think there's something about reading maps and instruments that involve color. One of my uncles wanted to be a pilot, also, but he was not able to because he, like Paul Newman, was colorblind.

talk about pilot ability.. I once had the honor of hearing a U2 pilot and he told us that those planes are so high that a ship looks like a tiny dot and the plane is vertually invisible because of the height but they can tell what color the cigarette pack is in your pocket.. the seat is form fitted to the pilot's body and these pilots are never discharged

It seems to me that there is something true about the greatest generation. A higher number of people enlisted freely, they were not drafted. Now we can pay people enough to join us. I faithfully served 30 years in US Army and loved every moment except some of the training at Fort Polk and NTC at Fort Irwin.
