What is dyslexia?
Correct answer: Reading disorder
TheCriminalMcButtfac
As someone who has dyslexia, this is incredibly false. What you say it is is nowhere near what it actually is.
Dyslexia is reversing and mixing letters and words or names up, and less frequently can also do the same with things in a physical sense.
An example of dyslexia is this:
"Arer This si"
what should that be?
"This is rare"
Reversing letters, words, spellings, or mixing up the order of them, or swapping a letter or two of one word and putting it on another, while doing the same with that words letters.
That is dyslexia.
Nadia Neale,
My son has it too, it wasn't picked up until his teens, for years I asked his school if he was Dyslexic, no they said, he's lazy!!! AARRGGHH my son isn't lazy nor was he then... I moved him to another school, took him to the Institute for Dyslexia... Sure enough, he was diagnosed as Dyslexic... THANK YOU AT LAST someone listened... Just a great pity his school didn't!! Best wishes to you.. Xxx

Look into coloured eye tests. My daughter wears blue tinted lenses and can now see the gaps between words!

Having a sister, 2 nephews and a niece and my son, all who have dyslexia AND learning disorders, there is nothing wrong with the term, "learning disorders". Much like autism, no 2 kids have the exact same problems. When my son gets frustrated, I like to tell him that he is like a Mac computer and everyone else is a PC computer. They both do the same thing, just differently. BTW, a lot of people with dyslexia and learning disorders are extremely smart - Einstein had dyslexia and flunkef math!

I would have to disagree with what our 1st person how tried so hard to define my learning disorder. I would agree more with the poster who said the order of letters and add numbers. For me it was b and d, e and s but most people with the learning block are of upper intelligence. I was Bio, Nuclear, Chemical defense guy. My team that I was encharge over setup the defense of the 56 UN meeting after 911. I later was the writter/trainer for all of North America. I have a Masters Degree In Psychology with international honors and I pale in comparison to others that had the same block to understanding the learning process as we teach it. One of our well known families in the US came up with away to teach people that have this disorder. You might be surprised to how many inventors, leaders, doctors that have the same disorder. So for those that have kids with what I call a blockage to normal education teachings there is hope and your child will and can be what ever they want to be!

TheCriminalMcButtfac, While the definition provided may not full cover your type of dyslexia it does not mean it is false. There is a wide range of definitions of what dyslexia is because there are so many different variations

I am also dyslexic and it has been proven to also be an audible issue as well. I personally can not distinguish certain sounds different combinations letters make. it also affects math skills and coordination.
Reneeisxena
TheCriminalMcButtfac, you are completely correct. I have it and have to concentrate much harder than normal people would. spell check is my saviour, it really helps. I still have to pay close attention when writing. it does seem to get worse when I'm tired or stressed. I also have issues with numbers. thank you for setting the record straight!

Dyslexia is not a learning disorder, it is a reading disorder.

Xenabuff, Not exactly. I explained what it is in my comment. It has nothing to do with eye issues. It's actually a simple mix up in a person's brain sorting.

I have heard dyslexia be referred to as "word blindness."

It's funny that someone put colour blindness because dyslexia can sometimes be referred to as "word blindness." I think?

FreezingAcolyte89399, even IQ tests are limited in the range of abilities they measure. When will we accept that people are very diverse & humans just don’t fit in neat little boxes with a rating on.
All these things are just part of the
Human spectrum. Of course certain things need to be recognise so people can get the help they need to deal with it, that is all.
