You have to respect researchers who put in long hours for the benefit of us all. I don't mind seeing them become rich doing it.

I had some eccentric friends who kept gilas as pets when I lived in southern Arizona. They had two or three of them (loose!) in a room you had to go through to get to their pool, so I flat out refused to go swimming and everyone would tease me about it. Gila monsters are such slow moving lizards, the chances of being bitten are on par with being the victim of a turtle attack. However, we were drinking and I wasn't willing to even take the chance that I might stumble in a room with deadly lizards on the floor!

swish, They are not venomous, but their mouths contain lots of horrible bacteria. When its prey gets a nasty bite, the wound quickly gets infected by the bacteria and then it dies. The prey will escape but that doesn't bother the komodo dragon. It just follows the prey slowly knowing that the prey will soon die from the infection.

Interesting & somewhat informative question, but I take issue with the statement that these creatures feed "primarily" on eggs. I'm of the opinion that they'll eat whatever & whenever they can. Since they are found mostly in desert areas, that could include everything from insects, other lizards, snakes, rodents, some plants, and anything else they find.

IMAGINATION. LOVE THIE SPECIES BUT NOT VENONOUS ONES. WE HAD A BEARDED DRAGON, A SNAKE, AND A NORHER TYPE. THEY NEVER BIT ANYONE. BEARDED DRAGONS ARE SWEET TEMPERED LIZARDS.
