What is the name of the mountain that this carving is on?
Correct answer: Stone Mountain
Denise Lentz
Even though a lot of people consider confederate monuments as racist they are a part of our history, our children need to learn all the history of their country, good and bad!
Kathi Stambaugh
Joel Mount,
I cannot understand why you say that this monument has anything to do with racism,
It seems to me that the people who are always yelling ,” racism, are generally the very
worst at trying to get along with others in any way, other than to be causing a problem, where there is none !
ChampyShaman58890
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Knowledge is power.
Teslasgirl66
It is a chapter of our history. In Europe they have museums devoted to the history of the NAZI party. NOT because they are racist but BECAUSE they don't want to see it happen again, to expunge it only lessens the horrible atrocities that racism and bigoted thinking beget.
Mike Mead
Joel Mount, in 1929 and 1958 congress passed laws designating all Confederate veterans as United States military Veterans. Making it ILLEGAL to destroy Confederate monuments.

there is a lot of bad history. however it was another time another era. it should not ever be destroyed because of someone's inability to accept the past.I'm not religious but I don't think that all crosses and churches should be destroyed.
Teslasgirl66
Kathi Stambaugh, so very true my friend. I've found the most intolerant are the first to spew hate and make stereotypical assessments of others.

Player #15282656, My ancestors (the Scots) were also slaves, albeit many hundreds of years before your ancestors were enslaved. The Scots and Irish and English were enslaved by the Romans. You would be hard put to find a race that was not enslaved at some point in history.
SuzMonkey
@Uninitialized, actually the first slaves brought to America were indentured slaves from Ireland. These were the white slaves people don't learn of.
Mr. Rick
Kathi Stambaugh, they were heroes though for fighting for what they believed in. so right or wrong they where great strong men. and should be respected and remembered.
tim
Virginia , and, of course, the Whites have treated Blacks so well ever since!??
Dwighty
Julie, 600,000 men gave their lives to ensure that other human beings were treated as sub-human. Wow, in the 21st century that’s something to be proud of ?
Dwighty
Mr. Rick, I guess by your rationale Hitler and other Nazis were also heroes.
Dwighty
Kathi Stambaugh, and if you see nothing wrong with that monument; therein lies the problem.
lala
Brandy, we are going to visit next week at Stone mountain.we can't wai
LonelyOwl
There is just so much history in that mountain ⛰
Lionessa
Evidence of human slavery has been found in hunter-gatherer archeological sites. The Code of Hammurabi (c. 1750 BC) addresses slavery as an institution. All races, ethnicities, religions have been enslaved. It certainly didn't start with America.
Andy
Been there. Cool ride up on a cable car, and amazing views.
Julie
This is the saddest part of our nations history. My dad brought me a shirt from there because he visited the site on a Civil War tour. He wanted me to never forget the price 600,000 men paid fighting for what they believed in. One group was preserving our nation, the other their states rights. We should have never been part of the slave trade.

do you know what history means in spanish? story, so they are stories from the past!!
Max
Teslasgirl66, do you see statues of Nazi leaders? Of course not.
Max
Denise Lentz, not by glamorizing slavers.
Virginia
well I do not praise this monuments because they fought for blacks to remain in slavery I thank God for president Lincoln for his godly heart to stop the evil all men r created equal some people still fly that confederate flag that mean nothing the confederate army lost so I do not praise leaders that wanted slavery I feel Confederacy was evil
Brandy
We love our stone mountain, although some people here want it demolished.
Addam
Mike Mead,
the majority of the confederate monuments were put up during the Civil Rights Era and not after the Civil War like most confederate supporters think that they were built
JustJason007
If we continued to remove negative aspects of US history, future generations will not understand why certain things are the way they are and not continue to strive to be better
Charles
Mr. Rick, couldn't agree less.
Fancy
Denise Lentz, yes I agree. Our children need to learn about the “racist” behavior, so they never repeat it.
mando
Teslasgirl66, museums and monuments are two very different things.
Neil
Kathi Stambaugh, I agree completely with you kathi
HedyMichel
Denise Lentz, my feelings exactly and these were all great men. If you try to deny your history the lessons learned are also lost. It’s who we are as a whole…. The good and the bad!
Olly
scubapro1968 - You, and others, speak of Jews being enslaved in Egypt. In fact, it was Israelites who were in Egypt, ie. the whole twelve tribes of Israel. The separation of Israel into two entities took place centuries later, with the tribes of Judah and Benjamin then becoming known as "Jews", and the remaining 10 tribes being scattered throughout the world. The scattering of the Jews took place after the crucifixion and the refusal of the Jews to then accept the Gospel of the risen Christ.

Mr. Rick, You are awesome. Very well said.
Hopeful
Very true, slavery has existed since the beginning of time. When history is forgotten man in with his sinful nature will repeat the same mistakes again.

Kathi Stambaugh, you're so right!👍👍
lisa
Player #50531971, I would agree with that if we could afford it but due to inflation and giving our country to ILLEGALS we are not able to correct any past issues 😐
Bijou
ChampyShaman58890, I agree completely. Read your history books!
Miss Jewel
Teslasgirl66, that's the difference between having museums vs monuments or statues. Stone mountain is where the KKK first met.
