Guessed this one right because "sfirya" also means "to whistle" in my native language (Bulgarian) which has some words with Greek origin.

Lesley Dixon, sad! hope someone is recording what's left

There is a great article pertaining to this language on the website outline.com. You can listen to audio samples of the language and learn a bit of history. I highly recommend the read/listen.

This is the second game where I have to take notes, else I'll forget the term, and need to do further independent research for my own pleasure. The first and only game I had to do this, up until now, is chess. I write down the moves in case my opponent wins and I can backtrack to see where I screwed up and can improve my game.

Very similar to the mountain communications of the Alps we know as yodelling. Same as the mountain calls in Appalachia.

think about it. we use a whistle language. when a man whistles at a woman.. meaning she looks good, when you whistle "come here" "come home" to your kids or your dog. your approval at a performance on a stage or sporting event.

Player #185561, no. I kniw that got a fact cause I'm Australian and live in Australian the aboriginals don't even speak like that. There are some tribes to this day that use the click and clack popping sounds in Africa. Watch the movie " gods must be crazy"

Omni47, guessed it because “siffler” is the French word for whistle

Omni47, It's also similar to the Arabic word "SAFEER صفير which has the same meaning as sfirya. there's also a whistling language in the Fuerteventura of the Canary islands

joe-d 98, I never yelled for my kids to come, I always whistled. My kids are all grown up now and they always talk about me whistling for them to come home while the the kids mother’s yelled. And yes they could hear me from quite a distance too.

Are any attempts made to teach or preseeve this language? If only 10 people remain, it should be taught to somebody, maybe a musician. they already know timing & frequency.

Two of my grandkids live about 1/4 mile away from me and I have whistled at them saying I hear them playing and hello. I can be anywhere and give a certain whistle and they hear it and know it is time to find me, even my adult children know that whistle to this day.
