During what war was the novel "The African Queen" set?

this is one of my favorite favorite films can't count how many times I've watched it with family members and had to put my hand over my mouth so didn't give the plot away love it

in south east England where I live (kent) it's now quite common to get lime green ring necked parakeets. they obviously are not native to cold rainy Britain. the movie the African queen was actually filmed at Elstree studios just west of London - one of the theories ( urban legends) is that the parakeets were brought to UK for the movie and a breeding pair escaped.

AbleOrchard1, this was my father's favourite film, he also loved the treasure of the Sierra madre. a fabulous film, Bogart and Hepburn are superb.

one example where Hollywood makes better-on the book. the novel quite sad... the film (thx John Huston) concludes heroic!
