technically it'll freeze at -20 too

Fellow Americans: Without having to learn the whole Metric system, just remember this quick, little cheat- 0°C = 32°F (Freeze) 100°C = 212°F (Boil)

Nadman, not true! I learned celcius before I learned farenheit. I lived in Italy as a child then moved to Alaska. It was very frustrating having to learn a whole new way of doing things, especially since it didn't really make as much sense... I did think it was silly to be the only country using those measurements. still not all Americans are stuck in their own little world.

SlickWiggler, no. it will remain frozen. it freezes once at zero. after that it could keep getting colder but it only freezes once. at zero. technically.

Twotonic, diluted water? Reminds me of an old Steven Wright joke, "I bought some instant water, but I did not know what to add to it".

The freezing and melting points are actually different in the case of water

Twotonic, How do you dilute water?? Add more water? How do you connect it with other liquids? Freeze them into Lego shaped blocks?

why did America adopt the British measures after their war of independence ???

adams101313, As long as I understand Fahrenheit, I have no guilt at staying "stuck" with that measurement system.

Food for thought... The temperature and pressure at which a substance can exist in equilibrium in the liquid, solid, and gaseous states. The triple point of pure water is at 0.01 °C (273.16K, 32.01°F) and 4.58 mm (611.2Pa) of mercury and is used to calibrate thermometers and compare critical points.

Thought it starts at Zero, but actually freezes at -4 degrees 🤔😅

if it can freeze at 0 why can't it freeze at -20😶

Canadians use a weird mix of both metric and imperial measurements. Outdoor temperatures are in Celcius, but we heat our ovens in Fahrenheit. Distance is measured in meters, but our height in feet and inches. We will say that the next town is 15 kilometers away, but that it is 8 hours between Regina and Winnipeg. Stuff we buy at the store is in grams and kilograms, but we weigh ourselves in pounds. We will buy a litre of milk, but use a cup of milk in a recipe.

water is an anomalous liquid. it has maximum density at 3.8 degrees Celsius and gets lighter as it reaches zero degrees celsius

answer is -20° not 0° as water freeze at below 0° not at 0° so the answer is wrong

SlickWiggler, Technically it's incorrect since it's already frozen. 0C is freezing point.

Little Saint, the freezing melting point and osmotic pressure of water, as for any other liquid do change by the presence of solutes. Those are colligative properties (properties affected only by the proportion of no.of solute to solvent particles). the freezing and melting point decrease and increase respectively, due to the disturbance of the intermolecular bonds between the solvent molecules, by their bonds with the solute. Only the osmotic pressure changes due to "dissplacment" of the solvent

I have a suspicion that If the water contains solid particles or other components, it's freezing temperature will drop and the boiling point will rise.
Player #34161174

Little Saint, it's more of a grammatical point. if one puts a glass of water outside at minus whatever, it will freeze. the question should exclude minus 20 by saying, "Which is the minimal temperature that water freezes?"

Player #32567393, Snow forms when the atmospheric temperature is at or below freezing (0 degrees Celsius or 32 degrees Fahrenheit) and there is a minimum amount of moisture in the air. If the ground temperature is at or below freezing, the snow will reach the ground.

SlickWiggler, the temperature of the surroundings may be -20°C but the temperature of the water when it's freezing is 0°C. The ice (after water freezes) would also be at -20°C, but not the water
