I thought it was a good question, I am 62 and never knew all that about our zebra crossings. The only thing that I thought was odd was the word legal, I don't think crossings were illegal!

I was taught as a child to put one foot on the road at a zebra crossing to let drivers know I was ready to cross. Crazy when I look back. Would not do that now! Too much traffic. Not many zebra crossings left. Taken over by Pelican crossings.
