What is the underground railway system in Paris called?

I love Paris and one of my favourite things is the metro. You can easily get to anywhere from anywhere. It's a wonderful way to explore an incredible city. And a metro pass includes the Montmartre funicular.

Uninitialized, Well my husband and I went on the Paris Metro, by ourselves speaking no French in 2023. We found it very crowded and a bit scary. Luckily a kindly elderly French lady helped us reach our destination. All French people we encountered in Paris were helpful, not rude.
