1588. Spain ruled the world. What if...England lost. America would be unimaginably different. Analogous to Battle of Tours in 732, where Charles Martel stopped the Muslims from overrunning Europe. I'm not equating the Spaniards to the Muslims, but just that these two events were pivotal in the course of history.

Ignazia11, The British cannons also had better range, this allowed them to stay out of range of the Spanish cannons.

I'm Scots. My ancestors were Macdonald's from the northern area called Sleet. several of Armada services ended up there. The clan helped them repair ships so those who wanted to return to Spain could do so. Some stayed and married into the clan. I'm glad they did. I have brown eyes and dark brown hair instead of red hair and green or blue eyes.

Ignazia11, It was mainly the fireships that the English sent into Calais where the Armada had taken shelter. They scattered and headed north. where bad weather wrecked them along the Scottish and Irish coast?. The decendents of the survivors are still living in Ireland today.

Ignazia11, I recently learned that a freak storm happened at the same time just like in the Russo-japan war that Japan called the Kamakazi

kelo wren, this is not factual. See Brittanica on line’s details of the battles. The English had superior fire power and were better trained. A storm finished the armada off but they were on their way home via Scotland by then, because the English fleet blocked their passage south.

Player #29665050, I think it would depend on the people rescuing them. If they were Catholic, like most of Scotland and Ireland. they would have welcomed them. These, at the time, independent countries did not think much of the daughter of Henry VIII with his anti catholic actions - dissolution of the monasteries etc. There would have been bad people who wouldn’t have welcomed the Spanish of course. The sort who would have taken anything valuable from the galleons and killed the survivors.

kelo wren, Spanish colonialism still did though! Think South America. North America would have been mainly Spanish in your scenario and they were as cruel to indigenous people, if not even crueller than the north Western Europeans.

I'm not sure about all these comments saying the Scots and Irish aided the Spanish sailors, repaired their boats, or even welcomed them into their homes and families. Over 5,000 Spanish sailors were killed by drowning, starvation, or murdered by the local inhabitants off the Scottish and Irish coasts, if they even managed to scramble ashore. Survivors were arrested and ransomed if they were wealthy - executed if not. The idea of enemy combatants being afforded a jolly 21st century howdy-do isn't very believable.

WaldoLydeker, Your points are well taken. Two examples of how history was shaped by the outcome of two military conflicts that haven't received as much attention as they deserve.
