it's unfortunate, I think that's probably been written out of the textbooks. they don't want children to learn that kind of thing anymore! Bastille Day was the storming of the Bastille prison in the 1700s. That led up to the French Revolution.

FunkyMonkey, it is said that hindsight is 20/20 but that isn't always true. A tree with many branches has many diverging paths. One could say that had it not been for the French assistance during the Revolutionary War, we might still be under British rule. Yet if it were not for the British assistance during the French and Indian War, we might be under French rule. During the War of 1812, it was either the France or Spain, I believe, that was giving the British more difficulties that Britain could not bring all her might to bear which had she been able to do so, might have been enough to force us back under the thumb of Great Britain. Who knows for sure what would have happened if any or all of these events were changed.
