InfiniteCavalier9669, my first backgammon set came in a little black case with a map of Cyprus in gold on the front. We were posted there in the army in the early 80's. Beautiful island.

the "counters" are officially called stones.

My husband and I like to play a version called " acey-duecy". Maybe not traditional, but still fun. We play the traditional way, as well.

in my younger years, played this game a lot. This is mainly a gambling game, where a $1 game could end up being $64. When you use the cube, the winner does not need to remove all his pieces. Rich people in the Middle East have played for very high stakes in this game. Does anyone know the origins of the game?

Great game to play, but, I dig ACDC better.

Backgammon is an ancient game , attempting to graft on any American term is an obscenity. By your own statement they should be referred to as draughts

Player BARTEMAEUS 10
GrandmaTanya, They should rightly be called checkers, because they are like the thick discs used in draughts (American checkers). Here in the UK, in games like ludo, snakes and ladders, tiddlywinks etc, we call the thin plastic pieces "counters"
It's just the way we are :)
