happycat56, northern Michigan is beautiful. rent a boat and you can travel from lake to lake and eventually end up on one of the great lakes. they're all interconnected. There's plenty of hotels and restaurants on water. You'd never have to drive.

I live 30 minutes from some quaint beach towns! Three Oaks Mi, Michigan City, In- You can't believe the Sunsets and in Bridgeman Mi they play taps with a bugle as the sun finally disappears- as tho its dropping into the massive lake!!!

Michigan Girl! When most retire and move to Florida, we moved further north to St. Helen, Mi. Louvre all 4 seasons, love our Great Lakes. (Too bad the oil company, Enbridge has been allowed to let oil leak under the Straights of Mackinaw, Huron and Michigan lakes.) But the Mighty Mac Bridge that connects the upper and lower peninsulas is simply majestic to look at and cool to go across! Then there is God's country, the upper peninsula! Water falls, wild country in parts, rich in history. And yes Michigan does have more lakes than Minnesota!
