With all of the thousands of acres burnt in California's wild fires, I wonder how many of these majestic, tallest trees are left? Sad.

MadMarcus1812, In the UK, a tree like that would be put on the Champion Tree list by the Royal Forestry Society. (trees of great height, girth, age, rarity or importance)

Jackie, I would assume the (unspoken), implied meaning would read "The tallest tree "DISCOVERED BY MAN" or "THE TREE BELIEVED TO BE THE TALLEST..." Some statements aren't meant to be taken SO literally!

I remember a children's picture storybook about a seed pod on a redwood tree that was scared when it saw a forest fire coming. I don't remember the details but learned the seeds need fire to be able to grow. When I hear of a terrible California fire I pray for those affected and think of all the new redwoods being born.

RJHondo57, it is sad, but these trees are able to withstand fire surprisingly well. that's how they live to be up to 2500 years old.

True but if the fire gets into the root system it can kill these ancient tree's, unless the surviving roots can 'cathedral' grow from the devastation.

marccrand, Yes, just as long as they are not the intense fires we have been getting lately that sterilized both the soil and the poor little seeds.

Player Gigi #28446253, You do have redwoods/ sequoia in Yosemite which is close by to you. I was told by a tour guide The coastal trees are the female and sequoia are the males. Not sure if that is true

RHULAS, don't think you'll find any giant redwoods in Tulare. That is hot central California and they need the cool damp ocean air.
