The actual bar is the "Bull and Finch Pub" in the Hampshire House Hotel on Beacon Hill in Boston. My college roommate and I used to go there regularly (drinking age was 18 back then, and the 'beer menu,' a novelty, was awesome). The tourist hordes after the show aired ended our "special place," but, a great show was worth it and good for the good ole Bull and Finch!

the new bartender was named Woody before Harrelson auditioned

Aaron, we had a bar that I worked at, where everybody knew our names. There was a guy named Pork that was one of our regular friends who would walk in and we all yelled “PORK” just because of Cheers and NORM. Miss those days…

Woody: " How ya feelin' Mr. Peterson?" Norm: "Poor". Woody: "Oh I'm sorry to hear that" Norm: "No, I mean pour".

In the pilot episode, Norm has a heavy Boston accent, but he didn’t maintain it like Cliff did into the series.

Norm was the inspiration for Morn on Deep Space 9. He sat in Quarks bar most episodes. Unfortunately, was never given lines.

The bar front, is an actual Restaurant/Bar in Boston, Ma. I can't remembet the name, I went there in 1993. I'm thinking Drum & Fyfe or the Bull Tavern. Maybe some Bostonian would know ?
