CanadaSam, columbular basalt is formed by the cooling of molten lava forming columns and can be found throughout the world. Outside of Boise, Idaho there is a section of columbular basalt leading up to Lucky Peak Dam. The basalt has been chemically linked to the Columbia River Basalts.
