As a native texan i can add it is illegal to pick or cut down Bluebonnets, if u drive the hwy u will see they mow around them, i was taught state pride in school but kids now aren't instilled w/ it... which saddens me

I only got the correct answer because I lived in Texas for four years, and was surprised that the state flower was the bluebonnet, not the yellow rose of song.

In the area around La Grange (where the infamous Chicken Ranch was), there are fields of bluebonnets as far as the eye can see. Or there were when I was there in the '80s.
