Owner literally snuck the team out of town in the middle of the night. Disgraceful.

QuickSpecialist2136, Born & raised in MD...what he said is true. The whole team was packed up in a convoy of Mayflower tractor trailers & left in the middle of the night.

let me see if i can untangle this mess the Indianapolis colts played in Baltimore from 1953 to 1983, prior to that they were a defunct Dallas Texans franchise with green and silver uniforms. the owner that moved the franchise from Baltimore to Indy was Jim irsay's drunken father Bob irsay, who shopped the team around to Phoenix and Jacksonville before choosing Indy in March 1984. the Baltimore ravens used to be the Cleveland browns franchise prior to 1996. there was no NFL franchise in Baltimore from 1984 to 1995, but there was a USFL team called the Stars, which won back to back titles, first in Philly, then in Baltimore. there was also a CFL team, first called Baltimore Colts, then they were sued and changed their name to Baltimore CFL Colts, then changed again to Baltimore Stallions, then folded when the Cleveland Browns moved town to become the Ravens. There's a lot more to all of this, including politics, but that's the basics.

Major Audie Murphy, "Disgraceful"? You should read up on how the Colts franchise were being treated by those in power in Baltimore. They were escaping to Indy

Delta Tango, It was Jim Irsay that snuck the team out. Art Modell moved the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore after the city of Cleveland declined to build a new stadium.

Doug, it wasn't the same thing. the Browns got to keep their name, colors, and records. Indianapolis took all of that from Baltimore.

Major Audie Murphy, if the owner and its team wanted to stay in Baltimore, they would have. They obviously didn't want to be there. However, I am a big fan of Audie Murphy being an Army veteran myself. I appreciate your username. I just went to visit his grave site at Arlington yesterday.

will never forget when that happened. "Snuck out" is the correct terminology, because the city of Baltimore was not notified of the move to Indianapolis. it hurts to go to the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio and see Johnny Unitas listed under Indianapolis Colts. He never played there. sad that all of Baltimore Colts records are listed under Indianapolis.
