GeGe, Many reasons are responsible for the teeming life, not just one. One is that the corals and algae can attach to the legs and grow at different depths. The food where there had been none before attract the smaller fish and so on. The legs also provide some protection from the currents, giving fish a chance to rest. Other reasons contribute.
Each reason by itself might not be enough to produce the thriving communities. It is the meeting of all these reasons that prove how opportunistic nature is.

VH, I love David Attenborough. I especially love his shows on dinosaurs. To see him going at his age is remarkable. I'm going to cry when he dies. My son, who has autism will too. He loves all his shows and we watch them all the time.

Player #40509249, He worked for the oil companies one time only. He's allowed to do so & obviously didn't do it again. But, what is interesting is the abandoned oil rigs are now teeming with sea life where there wasn't much before. Biologists are puzzled by it & don't understand why this eyesore in the ocean is so favored by sealife. I just read an article about it last week. The pictures of all the fish, coral & other sea life was amazing & beautiful. Just shows how adaptive nature is & even things that appear to be bad can have redeeming qualities. It is quite a quandary for environmentalists according to the article.

My Dad introduced me to the world of Jacques Cousteau and I watched the show with him as a kid. I’m so grateful that they instilled in me a love of science, wildlife, the ocean, and the importance of caring for the planet.
