Rosa Parks was the start of the Civil Rights Movement, but Martin Luther King JR gave his life for it!! He was a great man who preached protest WITH peace. I love him and he is greatly missed.

Player #3, Had MLK, JFK, and RFK lived I believe America would be very different and far better than it is now. These were brave men, who were willing to risk everything for what they believed in and felt must be done. They managed to work towards their often controversial goals, in a peaceful but clear manner.

IHateEvery1, That's not true at all you're possibly confusing him with Black Panthers or Malcolm X; though, I wouldn't go as far to say that they were violent, they were rightfully angry and what they did was to make a louder point. They all supported the same thing just had different views to go about it; but above all MLK Jr preached, supported, and embodied love and peace he understood the justified anger but he didn't condone it.

If you want to go back to the beginning of the Black Civil Rights Movement in the United States you need to go to the beginning of the Abolitionist Movement AKA Anti-Slavery Movement in the United States. The modern Black Civil Rights Movement began when President Harry S. Truman ordered the desegregation of the United States military.

wyattvvchill, Dr. King was a Democrat and disdained by many whites during his lifetime. If anyone's racebaiting today it's Trump. He began his campaign for president by calling Mexicans racists; remember?

You've heard of stories about alternate dimensions. Sometimes, because of assassinations like John Kennedy and Martin Luther King, it seems we are living in an alternate dimension, not the one that should be.

Just completed "Death of a King" by Tavis Smiley regarding his last year and I highly suggest anyone to read about a great crusader for equality and justice. Racism, Poverty & Militarism were Doc's 3 main items he wanted to abolish. Sad to say 50 yrs later we are dealing with all 3. smh
