Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, Lorado, Sugarfoot, Bonanza, they just don’t make them like that any more, and all the theme songs explained the story, oh for the days past.

Player #741530, Clint Walker was my fave! I collected everything I could with him in it, but got caught by the VHS to DVD switch. He was another actor to get his career messed up by early contract with a big studio. He should be here for Superhero Age. Highly underrated!

I was thinking that "Bonanza" was the first hour long western. Maybe I was confusing it with the first color one. It's interesting how such a dominant TV genre vanished. I suspect that perhaps after the assassinations, Vietnam and Watergate, the appeal of the heroic narrative lessened. People also became aware of how idealized the stories were, with the simplistic good vs. evil portrayals. Reality was a lot more complex. Maybe that's why the anti-hero "spaghetti western" films became more popular.

Pentatonic Patty, I think "Bronco" was another of the Warner Brothers series. I seems like it alternated weekly with "Cheyenne" and perhaps another show? "I think "The Rebel" was also around about that time.
