In my late teens, I had to read a Margaret Atwood novel as part of my post-secondary education. It was god-awful, full of esoteric SYMBOLISM (something to do with a woman turning into a moose as I recall). In my mid-thirties, I decided to give her another chance. Still as horrible as ever. That was about 25 years ago and I haven't touched a book of hers since. I have read Canadian authors whose work I appreciate much more.

sanders of the river, Actually, yes, it was -- albeit in tiny little itty-bitty letters. (I had to take off my glasses and squint!) I have never heard of this book or this author, so that was the only way I got it right.
