Tabssc, maybe you had the misfortune of landing in one of the more undesirable parts of Texas economically, culturally, or aesthetically. It's actually a beautiful state, with areas of deserts, forests, lakes, hill country, and beaches. There are creative people making films, art, and of course, music! Some areas are really booming, so there's plenty of traffic and dust from all the expansion. Do take some time to explore and enjoy it. Welcome, and I hope things come together for you!

I read quite a few comments and was very surprised that no one Texan mentioned the fact that Texas has had 6 flown over her in the past. My husband is a proud Texan and reminds me of this fact periodically. 1. Spain. 2., Mexico. 3. independent country of Texas. 4. the Confederacy during the Civil War, 5. USA 6. flag of the state of Texas. The amusement park 6 Flags over Texas gets its name from Texas hustory.

Player #320083, just to give you an idea on the immense size of Alaska compared to Texas. You can fit 3 states of Texas in Alaska! I lived in Alaska for 6 years. Three years on Kodiak Island, 8 months in Kenai and two and a half years in Tanana. A little village right off the Tanana/Yukon river. Very beautiful state, great people.

Mary Frances , Back then, if they were real lucky, a ship in the gulf sent messages of something they saw. No weather forecasts otherwise. And if you didn't get off the island ahead of time, trapped like a rat..actually the rats had a better chance than the people. All those people crowded into a popular port city, so few survived. And fewer still had any place to live afterward. Dead bodies washing ashore for weeks after.

LillySparrow, I was there years ago. The Alamo was one of the most emotional & moving places I have ever been. The atmosphere was just so intense for me. I'm not one of those people who believe in spirits, etc but honestly I had all I could do to get through there. San Antonio's Riverwalk is beautiful. I enjoyed my visit there immensely & wish I'd had longer to stay.
