dollis1963, I remembered it as being "The 64 Thousand Dollar Question". The contestant was placed in a soundproof booth when answering the questions. I have a vague recollection of this show as a kid.

It’s a good thing to be reminded that television networks have a long history of doing anything (including fraud) to enthrall their viewership into watching their broadcasts. Ratings over honesty, integrity, treason, public interest, etc. I used to work in local television, and this “untouchable” mentality was why I left it and changed careers.
