I was raised on a dairy farm, so this was an easy question for me. Cows spend hours chewing their cud.

I knew about their extra stomachs, but never stopped to think that the fermentation is why they can survive on grass alone - seeing that grass has next to nothing nutritional value.

Maestro1313, Yeah! Most of the ruminants have 4 chambered stomach.

I studied this in my science book last year.

I think it's amazing how grass goes into an animal and milk is the result.

Some have 4 stomach areas.
