The name Beth was given to her by Almonzo not her mother.

They had many trials, but continued on in life. Some tragedies and and Charles gave the best advice. I know it was the writers, but all the characters were so believable. Great actors.

Charles Ingals took his family west and had no clue what he was doing. He built his house in a flood plain once. It was vaguely referred to in one of the episodes when Laura and her father walked out of their front door to talk and stood by a huge tree that had clearly washed down the river in front of their house in very high flood waters.

MRS. OLSEN WAS NOT MY FAVORITE CHARACTER, BUT NELLIE WAS WORSE. IT WASNT UNTIL LATER THAT SHE ACTED DECENTLY. IRONICALLY THE GIRL PLAYING HER AND MELISSA GILBERT WERE GOOD FRIENDS.

I have the complete DVD set and watch them all the time. My Grandkids like them too. It's a history lesson for them to show how life was back then with no phones, TV, plumbing and electricity.

She called her future husband, Almonso (of whom the book Farmer Boy was written), "Manly," and he called her Beth in return because her middle name is Elizabeth. Of the extended family cast, only Laura and Almonso remained through the final season of the show, which was called "A New Beginning," and focused on the rest of the town and a new family after Charles left Walnut Grove. (Michael Landon left the show.)
