I can remember my mamma buying very long spaghetti wrapped in a blue paper back in the 60's. I can't remember the brand name of the pasta and I don't know if any other makers wrapped theirs in a similar way. I do however recollect that it was very long and that she'd take a handful of it before snapping it in two and adding it to the pan. Did you know that the salt used in the water not only adds flavour, but raises the boiling temperature of the water and quickens that cooking time?

CometTamer, The "strands" lying across the dish are lengths of uncooked spaghetti. Spaghetti is only one type of pasta, the different shapes have different names. There are about 50 different ones. My favourite one is linguine.

Unless it’s gluten-free and then it can be made from a variety of flours. There is also spaghetti made from rice that is used in Asian dishes. So this is not entirely true
