People jokingly say that countries' capitals are located in the worst area. Originally, Washington, D.C. was a malarial swamp. I can see why it got it's nickname. Why do you think the government shuts down in the summer? It's hot as Hades with a matching humidity. l loved going through the Smithsonian, seeing the Lincoln Memorial up close and personal, climbing the Washington Monument with all it's names inside. So much to see and do.

There are stairways and corridors everywhere, although you wouldn't notice just walking through. Doors lead to shortcuts to other floors or corridors that bypass rooms and other obstacles. You WILL get lost if you don't stay with somebody for the first few weeks!

I was stationed at the Pentagon for 2 years during my military service. It was huge, a shopping mall underneath, snacks, food, etc, I enjoyed my tour of duty there.

Baboonlouie, That's revisionist history. The Air Force wasn't even created until after WWII. Prior to that it was the Army Air Corps.

Embarrassed to admit I got this wrong. My father worked in the Pentagon for many years. As a kid, I was petrified I'd get lost in those halls. One of the few times I held my dad's hand as he guided me through the halls.

joey
I learned this from a jack reacher novel

LillySparrow
Didn’t know that and got it wrong 😣
