Greece still celebrates Όχι (No) Day each year, on the day they turned Musolini down and refused to join the Axis powers in WWII.

Grandgal49124, A lot of historians credit Germany pulling troops out of Russia and sending them to take Greece as the Italians were getting pushed back all the way to Yugoslavia as the turning point of WW2, because the Germans were considerably weakened in Russia front as a result

My father's 2 older bros fought alongside the British forces and others. One was at El Alamein and the other at the Battle of the Bulge. They both survived and returned home. I never heard them mention their war time experiences. War is hell. You lose a lot of friends, some of whom perished that you could live. You never forget that.

I find it odd that a lot of people are "learning" their history from movies. These are not necessarily, and more frequently not, accurate. Suggest some try more reading.

DiabolicalJoker25653, thankfully not all Greeks hate the Turks, because some of us are actually not racist. We in fact know we have lots in common with our neighbours.

Well, glad Italians weren't really listening to the lunatic mussolini and at least in my island most of them were kinda "nice" to the locals during occupation - with of course exceptions. Glad we have some nice Italian architecture buildings, they did loved Rhodes /Rodi.

Player #2339936, that's incorrect. the Germans didn't invade Russia until June 22 1941. what it did do, is delay the invasion by a few months. if the invasion had start earlier Moscow might have fallen. but the German army as constructed then was never going to defeat Russia. too much Russia, too many Russians

What this doesn't tell you is that by Germany coming in to save the Italians weakened their Eastern front allowing the allies to mount the attacks that repelled the German and started the chain of events that led to victory for the allies!
