What is the official name of the monument in this picture, showing men hoisting the USA flag on Iwo Jima?
Correct answer: United States Marine Corps War Memorial

Player Meyer
Thank God for brave and patriotic men and women who are willing to serve

OnerousRaven41889
My Dad was a Marine on Iwo Jima and the South Pacific. Horrible stories. He was so humble and lost many best buddies there. He was only 18 then, and lived until 84.

Diver Dan, Agreed. Of all the wars America fought in, WWII is the most justified. IMO

God bless our military people and their families who pay such a high price for the test of us.

War doesn't prove who's right, it just shows who is left.

Player #15718736
To all our military men and women, thank you and God bless you. What would our lives be like, and others', had we lost?

OnerousRaven41889, my husband was in the Marines they dropped him off in Vietnam on his 18th birthday

Player Meyer, my husband was a Vietnam Marine radio operator. he was a wonderful man. he hated going to war but he was proud of it also. I don't really understand the dichotomy of it. he was exposed to agent Orange. that may explain why he died at 66 years old cuz he was thin and fit

brickmartian
DistressedStar2487, War is sometimes justified to prevent evil men from committing atrocities on others!
Other times, war is the method by which an aggressor seizes the power, and ability, to commit those atrocities!

Player #4250921, What about the American Revolutionary War?!?
We wouldn't be a country of we hadn't fought that one!

Rose
Sandman, neither would you or I. As an Army veteran, it is my considered opinion that DistressedStar2487 displayed no disrespect, merely a tragic truth.

OnerousRaven41889,
My Uncle Jimmy, an amazing man, fought with the US Marines in that battle. Our whole family is forever proud of him. I believe one of the men that placed that flag is from our native state of Connecticut, another thing our family is proud of. My son, also a US Marines war veteran and I, viewed the statue of this photo at Arlington National Cemetery, a great moment for both of us.

Just a brief note. This Memorial Day remember those who gave their all for your freedom, but thank the Vets on Our Day. Veterans Day. A, " thanks for your service", is appreciated but not on Memorial Day. Let's remember our history. Thanks.
