Steinbeck has such an easy to read style. Very difficult to copy. His books are fantastic, Grapes of Wrath is brilliant, if you haven’t read it give it a go.

if your into Steinbeck, read travels with Charlie. the best of and worst of USA in ..61? maybe a bit sooner. Charles is a large standard poodle of that time. this is true story written as Steinbecks travels from coast to coast . amazing book.

OzzysUndies, I like Steinbeck, he was always writing of the hard working people of the 30's...He wrote as Mentioned Grapes of Wrath, Oklahomans who escaped the Dust Bowl tragedy...Thanks to these people the Orange Industry grew in Northern California... I loved reading Cannery Row and Of Mice and Men; people that are considered Salt of the Earth, I always liked Tortilla Flat...The people who lived a carefree and relatively happy life...One day I will go to his hometown Salinas California where there is a "museum" in his honor

RockNRollMama82, OH, YES - MUCH BETTER! Steinbeck's language is rich and nuanced and wonderfully crafted. With Hemingway you get lines like, "If you go, I go too. It's the only way I can go".

Player Gigi #28446253, Agreed! Steinbeck wrote so vividly and with such style. In comparison, Hemingway always seemed awkward and simple-minded to me.

'East of Eden' is my favorite Steinbeck novel. The movie adaptation was surprisingly, fantastic. I was "surprised" by the movie's brilliance because, I am usually left underwhelmed by book adaptation films. 'The Color Purple' 'The Postman Always Rings Twice' (both versions) and 'East of Eden' are my favorite book to film works.
