Mythological creatures and gods are found in almost all civilizations: Egypt, Greece, Rome, vikings, etc. polytheism can be found almost everywhere. Human belief systems helped shape the world as it is today. The Bible makes mention of the false gods of Egypt. The hebrews were the first peoples to profess belief in a single God. It is this one that the Jews, Christians and Moslems believe in. At the beginning people who worshipped a single God were just a very small minority. Polytheism is a part of human history whether we like it or not.

Taranchalanche, I true-heartidly disagree. One only needs to walk along the shores of an ocean or a creek , in a sunny meadow or amount the mountain tops. in theses places of harmony, within the trees is where I see what you claim as God. ..eh... thank the whole Universe that I do not only see commodities.
