As of August 23, 2016, how old was the world’s oldest known clonal tree colony?

The colony is 80,000 years old, not any individual tree.

If they are all growing from the same roots they are the same plant. Surely a clone is a separate organism, otherwise I could claim that the scar on my wrist from an operation is a clone ?

SC WizKid, the point is not just about a colony , but about their being clones. That is for 80000 years these trees have had the same DNA, and have propagated by cloning, asexual reproduction.

Australia has a similarly propagating tree called the Mallee. Some of the extant colonies have been estimated at 10,000 yrs or older. Unfortunately because the roots are the best charcoal firewood in the world, much older ones have already been dug up and burnt.
