my grandpa had infantile paralysis also known as polio. When his mother was told he would never walk she said "my son will not be a cripple". She spent hours and hours massaging his back and legs day after day. He walked again, without so much as a limp.

Player GayleP, I agree...probably the best president ever! He did so much for so many including bringing us out of the depression, developing so many parks and one of my favorites repealing prohibition! Too bad we don't have a president in recent years that measures a 1/10th of the good FDR did!

Presco2201. I agree. I worked for a company that really pushed you to give out of every pay check. Then I found out they took all their employees on a cruise every year. I made very little at my job and couldn’t afford a cruise. Made me mad to give my money so they could party

In grammar school during the forties we were each given a card with ten slots that you could push a dime into at the beginning of April I think and then we would fill it with dimes during the month and turn them in at the end of the month. We were proud to help.

I know this is serious, but I had to chuckle at the line, "The March of Dimes was 'coined' by Eddie Cantor." lol

My husband was diagnosed with polio very young. He was in an iron Lung for several months. At home, his dad would boil water and use hot cloths to massage his legs, before going to work at the dairy then do it again every night. I had a friend who developed “post polio complications” and later passed away. I make sure my husbands doctors inspect him with the “post polio” complication in mind.
