When my daughter was 1 yr old, in 1985, I was having acute stomach and back pain. I was told I had 2 gallstones in bile duct, and needed immediate surgery on a Monday, I was in Army Reserves and asked doctor to postpone surgery until after my weekend drill. I made it to Thursday, when the bile duct ruptured. I was very I'll, had infection just like when your appendix bursts. Opened me up all across stomach, 9 days in hospital. What did I learn? Heed doctor when he states. it's an emergency.

Player #3620817, you can have your gallbladder removed through keyhole surgery now. They don’t cut you open, instead they make tiny insertions into the area for the necessary surgical tools. Each tiny hole needs only 1 or 2 stitches. It’s much safer to have the op done this way. My husband had it done like that. It’s very quick and you’re back at work within days. 🤗

penawareof, if you think that then you need to be on a very low fat diet. When you eat anything with a medium to high fat content your gallbladder will start to pump bile to break down the fat. It’s this that makes you ill and in pain. If you stick to a 3% fat intake with all your food then you can live pain free. The only worry is if the gallstone moves and blocks the tube to the pancreas, then you will have pancreatitis and that COULD put you on life support. I only know all this through personal experience.

FamousWanderer404, I also had my removed young in early 20's, which is unusual so do tors don't think it's gallbladder issues. I had mine removed, but then then the bile duct leaked into my abdomen. Excruciating pain where I actually screamed. Keep advocating for yourself! Drs don't know everything.

Mine was removed because I had severe abdominal and back pain. Had the testing done and I had no stones but mine was full of sludge. It would not drain.

Cazcraz99, Unless the surgeon makes a mistake. The VA operated on my husband and a vein to one side of his liver was accidentally cut, causing most of one side of his liver to lose function. The problem was not adequately handled even afterward. Eventually abscesses formed in that side of his liver and caused sepsis. He almost died and permanent disability resulted. Surgery is surgery no matter what.

The first time I had an attack I didn’t know what is was. The pain kept getting more intense and after showing no signs of subsiding after more than an hour, I finally went to the hospital. I would have to keep doing this over the next year or so, since morphine was the only thing that had any effect on the pain. An ultrasound confirmed that it was my gallbladder, and I discussed my options with my doctor. I tried watching what I ate and modifying my diet, but I would get episodes and attacks no matter what, seemingly unpredictably. I lived in fear, never knowing when the next onset of unrelenting pain would occur, but knowing it likely would, eventually. I decided that the only permanent and best solution for me was to have the surgery. It was performed laparoscopically, leaving three relatively small scars. I experienced some pain soon after healing that made me think it had been unsuccessful, but after some time that stopped. I’ve since never had to deal with that pain again. I eat whatever I want (although I’ve recently stopped eating meat), and don’t have to worry about having another gallstone attack ever again! Having my gallbladder removed ended up being the right decision for me. It was presented as a last resort solution [as it should be], but it was the only thing that worked for me. Several years later, no regrets. :)

My gallstone is the size of a pigeons egg (I'm sure most off us have kept them) Sadly my diet didn't change, so now in pain and await ultrasound to ascertain where all that calcified cement has formed 🤢

Cazcraz99, Actually, it's a high carb diet that causes biliary colic, etc. That's when I get it. My normal diet is high fat/low carb, I have no problems. Eat pizza, then another high carb meal? Rolling in pain. Drs at the Emergency Department said, "Don't eat high carb!"

Cazcraz99, Keyhole is not always the case for this surgery. I was expecting keyhole and woke up cut through thorax with 32 staples. when they went in they found calcium stones and sand ( due to a hereditary disorder) and had to check every valve and duct through my gastrointestinal tract for blockage or tumours. I was as shocked and it took months to recover.

I had my fall bladder removed when I was 25. I had stones in the duct backed up and sending bile all over. I have a 8" scar because when they removed it, it disintegrated in the surgeons hand so they did an exploratory of all of my organs which were ok. I was in the hospital 10 days...3 days b4 surgery on IV antibiotics and 7 days afterward. Most painful surgery I've ever had. I didn't fit any of the criteria for fall bladder problems, so I had it for a while b4 Ultrasound.
