I only knew this b/c I have a eye disease called optic nerve drusin. pretty much I have less nerves, & I cannot see out the corner of my eyes, & I get blurry spots a lot.

Technically the optic nerve is called the optic tract once it reaches the central nervous system. By definition, anything with the word "nerve" in it cannot be a constituent part of the brain. It's a peripheral component.
